The
dive sites of Kas / Turkey
The area around Kas belongs to the Top 100 diving destinations worldwide.
This is because this area has an high amount of underwater life combined
with very clear water (up to 40 meterss visibility) and beautiful underwater
landscapes.
Diving in Kas often remninds you of ancient times: Many very
old amphoras and other ancient relicts ( some are more than 2000 years
old ) are waiting for your discovery !
There are around 30 different dive spots, that are all reachable
within 30 minutes starting from the harbour of Kas. Diving
in Kas contains
an huge amount of possibilities like wreck-diving, cave-diving, underwater
canyons, a lot of stone reefs, swim-throughs & tunnels, nightdiving
as well as underwater art exhibitions and many great places for swimming & snorcling.
The marine life : Barakuda, Stingrays, Sea-Turtles, rare Snails &
Nudibranches, Dorades, Jackfishes, Soldierfishes, Octopusses, Muray-Eels,
Trumpetfishes, many kinds of Brasses as well as huge Groupers of several
kinds and many more amazing underwater lifeforms are seen regulary in this
area.
A few of the dive sites, we are introducing here ( more will follow, soon
) :

"The
Canyon" : Great underwater canyon, that falls down from 3 - 23 m. Several
swimthroughs, 60 year old iron shipwreck. Alternate routes to max. 18 m. for
beginner divers are possible.
What to see : Sea Turtles, Sepia, Nudibranches, Groupers, Baracudas,
Jackfishes

Sometimes strong current at surface. In 2007, a seal was regulary sawn

Neptun
Riff : An easy to dive reef in a depht range of 12-30 meters. Masses of ancient
amphoras.
What to see :very old ancient cans & amphoras ( up to 2000 years old
), rare nudibrnaches, triggerfishes, jackfishes, groupers, brasses, a small (
diveable ) caynon, sometimes sea-turtles.

The
Tunnel : In a depht of 18 meters, you are swimming down in a
hole ( 5 x 5 meter ) and find yourself suddenly in a beautifull, half closed
cave ( which means : you see always the exit )
. There are beautifull soft corals growing at the walls and in the edges on
the bottom, you'll find small shrimps. Later, your route let you follow a nice
dropoff, where you can find nice nudibranches, parrot fishes, soldier-fishes,
spanish lobsters and also groupers.

Oasis
Reef : A small, mountain-shaped reef, sourrounded by sand and seegras.
On your way to the reef, you will see many quiet huge shells, which are living
in symbiosis with small shrimps. At the reef, there are many small caves
with muray-eels and cardinalfishes living inside - also many nice amphoras
are to see there. Nearby the reef lays a small shipwreck, which is the home
of 2 big groupers, some softcorals and a very rare kind of anemone. The Oasis
reef is very flexible to dive and for sure worse to go there 2 or 3 times. Those
of you with good eyes may find seahorses as well.
What to see : Sepia, sea rabbits, a small ship wreck, groupers, sea turtles,
nudibranches, sometimes baracudas.

Assi
Island : A good place to see octopus, barakudas, rare nudibranches,
grouper and sometimes sea turtles. Assi Island is a small Island, which you
can sourround during your dive. Underwater photographers can find many nice
motives here.

Brothers : A pair of islands, that includes in fact 3 different
divespots - from a shallow dive in easy circumstances up to "secret" places beyond
the standard depht limits. The record to sourround in one dive the 2 islands
( a 96 minutes dive ) is still unbeaten....

"Flying
Fish" : According to several elections from divers, scuba-magazines
& divecenters, this divesite is the No 1 diveplace in Turkey. One of
the main reasons for this as a airplane wreck from the second world war (
italian bomber ) that lays in a depht from 58 - 70 meter.
What to see :Airplane wreck from second world war,
Barakuda, Rare Snails, Stingrays, Octopus, Muray Eels, Brasses, Jackfishes,
Trigger-Fishes, many huge Groupers.
